Jack Hamilton

GUEST: Jack Hamilton is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Media Studies at the University of Virginia. He joins Coy to discuss the new hit movie “Straight Outta Compton,” a dramatic look at the “gangsta rap” group NWA, which changed the landscape of modern American music beginning in the late 1980s. Jack explores the origins of hip hop and rap music in the New York City area in the early 1970s and considers its place in the context of the cultural history of music in America.
