GUEST: Douglas Laycock is a Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Virginia School of Law.

TOPIC:  Professor Laycock shares his reaction to today’s historic Supreme Court decision regarding government-sponsored prayer. “Many folks in the culture have come to think that separation church and state is hostile to religion, but it was really to protect both sides. It was to protect the purity and integrity of religion, not making it a political battleground…[James Madison] and most of the founding generation, and the evangelicals of the time were with them on this, thought that it was better for religion to have government out of the way— not messing with it, not interfering and not trying to support because the support brought control and it brought political interference.”
